The winds of war...

I have often wondered about the whole going to war predicament that we Christians find ourselves in.  After all, you'll hear (or hopefully read) in the bible where Jesus tells us to offer up ourselves... “You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also” (Matthew 5:38-39).

But I also read how, in the process of forgiving, you are to confront your transgressor:   15"If your brother sins against you,[b] go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'[c] 17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Now the way I see it, if someone bumps you on a busy street, and begs pardon, forgive. If a thief breaks into your home and you call the cops, they catch the person and that persons apologizes, forgive him.  You did right by calling the cops.  Now if someone straps on a bomb and kills a hundred people, what do you do?

That's right, you send some well trained, fully armed folks over to the them that are doing the killing and try to talk things out.  Now in natural discourse with a murderer, sometimes violence is the only language understood.  However, if they ask for forgiveness then forgive them.  After reading the bible, its not really that hard to comprehend.

There are more verses:
Was Jesus always peaceful?: John 2:14
Romans 12:17-21 & 13:1-4
